I have a 1960 40 Lark. Just got it, so I don't know how long it has been sitting. It has spark, fresh fuel. I can see fuel in the bowl. I am pulling it, since it needs a start drive. Can't even get a pop or sputter?

Re: 40 Evinrude won't start

Put a little fuel/oil mix in a windex type bottle and spray some down the carb's throat. See if it'll sputter on that.
You say you have spark, but loosing spark under compression is a common problem for these old engines. Make sure your spark can jump 3/8" (with the plugs out to make it easy to pull). Often you will be able to jump the plug gap but not much further.

Check out the "Outboard wont start" troubleshooting in Engine FAQs, tjh.

Let us know what you find, and good luck. :)

Used to have the same trouble, found that the needle valve for the float was sticking after the fuel had evaporated, have you checked this yet?
