I have a T402 Merc 2 stroke O/B, that runs great, but when fishing/anchoring, when I try to restart, I have to hit electric choke 2-4 times to start, then runs awesome, what makes it do that? Thanks,Heinz
Re: 40 hp Merc outboard, choke after 1 hr sitting?
Some engines are just more cold blooded than others. Sounds normal to me unless it's an extremely hot day. I have to do that with my rude too on occasion. Especially when it gets colder outside or the water temp is cold.
Re: 40 hp Merc outboard, choke after 1 hr sitting?
Heres a small solution and a good idea for good preventive maint. Go to NAPA and purchase some SEA FOAM DEEP CREEP. Take your spark plugs out and spray a good amount in your cylinders. Put back together and let sit over night. Next day, get access to your carborators. Start your motor with your muffs on lower unit and spray some in short squirts in your carborator butterflies. Then watch all the funny colored smoke exit your exaust. <br /> The first time I done this to my motor, I was shocked. I used to have to choke, choke, and choke until my motor would finally start, now, I havnt used my choke button at all this year. This is some good stuff and ia a good decarb. I use 1/2 can per 3 tanks of fuel.
