40 Hp Merc

I have a 40 hp merc serial# 6140957 does anyone know what year this is? Also I have it on a 15 ft fiberglass boat. The boat is 60 in wide. Looks like old bass boat. I am trying to find out what size prop to put on it as I have a 2 blade prop and would like to go to a 3 blade. I don't have a tac on boat so not sure of rpms,but speedo shows it to run about 26. Ho Charlie,<br /><br />It's 1982.<br /><br />There's no way but the tach way if you want to do the prop thing right.<br /><br />For best prop advice we'd like to know boats length, width, weight, hull design, rpm @ wot, existing prop size & pitch (numbers stamped on the prop), motor mount height on the transom, intended use and if any, problems with the current setup.<br /><br />A pic would help, also id'fying the boat, if you could put one up.
