Hey guys, quick question. I have a 1995/6 40 hp mercury pro tracker oil injected outboard motor that has been sitting for 2 years while I was overseas. I put new impeller in it today and wanted to run it for a little bit, but it dies every time it's put in gear, forward or reverse. Also kinda hard to start. I have cleaned the plugs, changed the fuel line and all connections. Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated.

How does the motor idel? If you turn up the idel a little you might have a better chance of getting it to go into gear without stalling. Did you check timming also? good luck

id also flush out the tank, replace all fuel lines, and take apart the pump or flush it with cleaner to make sure nothing is in the fuel system...

Seems to idle fine, though I did notice it died at least once while at an idle. I haven't checked the timing yet but was looking for the idle adjustments on it. Not sure where it is, I'm a inboard motor guy and not to familiar with the outboards. I assume that it's probably on the carbs?

Idel adjustment is not on the carbs. It would be on the right side of the motor looking at it from the carbs. It is the throttle advance lever. There should be a screw that contacts the lever when it is all the way down at idel. You can turn the srew to make the lever move a little. That turns up the idel. Make sure you move the right screw!! Good luck
