40 hp Motor damaged from low oil

A friend of mine damaged his 1995 40 hp outboard engine by running it with low oil. He knows a new motor is about $6000 and is looking at repair options.

Can anyone recommend a good source for new or factory rebuilt power heads? Any other related advice is welcome.
