hey guys. just out of curiousity i looked under the dash of my boat today. i looked at the back of the tach. it was set on 10 pole. it has 4, 8, 10, and 12 pole settings. is this the correct setting on my tach. my outboards mod # is te 40 elenm. Ser # g 03057836. its a 1992 i believe. thanks for all the help guys. its on my 1993 tracker tx 17.

That would be correct according to the Teleflex web site for your motor: I would have guessed it to be a 12 pole alternator requiring a switch setting of 6... <br /><br />teleflexmarine.com/cgi-bin/frameset2.cgi?site=gauges&type=us&link2=1047

ive been doing some research and have found that there is a controversy on the tach setting for this type motor. it seems that many people are not clear on whether it should be set on 10 or 12 pole. any more opinions? :confused:

Does it seem to register RPM's accurately? Hard to argue with success, I would think. Not that I know much about hooking up tachs. But if it ain't broke don't fix it.

well ive been trying to get my motor boat combo dialed in and was just wantin to ensure that my efforts wont be for nothing :D
