40 Mariner runs great without water!!!

Any of you guys/gals see the 40 Mariner on ebay?<br />The guy has it running, without water, to show how good it runs. He says its a really good motor. Or it was.<br /><br />Also looks like he used jumper cables to start it, so there was no battery, and the rectifier is shot now, too.

no water = bad, this I know ...<br /><br />but wouldnt jumper cables just give the motor the "juice" it would get from a battery? well, 13.8 volts or so from a running jump donor?<br /><br />

Outboards must remain connected to a battery when running, or the rectifier has to take the hit of all the juice that is produced.<br /><br />It will also fry if the battery is connected backwards, even for a second or two.

Ok, here is the email response I got from him, after asking him about running it and jumping it.<br /><br />

YOUR SO STUPID IT WAS ONLY RAN FOR A SECOND BESIDES IF YOUR NOT BIDDING AND I KNOW YOUR NOT , WHY DONT YOU GO BUY SOME MORE THREAD AND PLAY WITH YOUR FISHING POLE. FREAK !!!

Must have hit a nerve. He went out of his way to seach my previous purchases, and discovered that I bought some rod wrapping thread.

Aw! Now you've done it. Hurt his feelings and he withdrew it from sale early. And he was trying so hard to catch the discriminating boater's eye by using what could have been a phosphor bronze boat nail to lock the prop nut on.
