40 Mercury overheating?

I took my tracker out yesterday and the warning horn was faint above 2500 rpm's water coming from tell tale was hot and the engine was hot to the touch,pulled down to idle and engine cooled down boat has sat for 2yrs any help woul be appreciated.

great! narrows it down for everyone...<br />not real familiar with the 95 models,<br />but deff. start with a new pump kit and<br />after sitting that long the carbs are<br />gonna need to be removed and thoroughly<br />cleaned w/new carb kits. this is regular<br />maint. and you may have already done this.<br />my guess is a lean condition from clogged<br />carbs??? oil injection or pre-mix btw?<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

It is oil injected,and have rebuilt carbs already<br />the info is greatly appreciated

NOT SURE THIS HAS A THERMOSTAT DOESN'T SHOW ONE IN MY SERVICE MANUAL OR IN MY PARTS MANUAL

One more question is it normal for water to come out of the exhaust while running?

Alot of outboards don't have thermostats.<br />If an outboard is sold in a state with a warmer climate they don't come with them according to the guy behind the parts counter at the local boat shop.<br />Yes water is supposed to come out your exhaust and tell tale.

I know mello yellow mentioned it might be running lean I put the engine in a large barrel with water and ran it at 3000 rpm no buzzer and water temp coming ouy of teel tale was 120 I do believe I am running rich seems to want to smoke a little more than I think it should. ;)
