40ELPTO oil tank

I have an oil alarm that didn’t shut off when I replaced the sending unit. Is there something inside the tank that makes/breaks the circuit?
I unplugged the sender and all is well, I can see the oil via the site glass but I’d like to fix it the correct way.

There is a metal washer attached to the float that comes off ( unglued), when that washer stays on bottom it triggers the alarm. There are some fixes on YouTube videos about carefully getting it out and reglueing it back on. Mine was disconnected years ago. I make a habit of filling the oil tank when I fill my 18 gallon fuel tank. Not worth buying new tank or even tearing it apart to fix it, when it will come off again down the road.
