Ok. I am not getting spark on the lower plug line. so I wanted to replace the coil, to do that i have to pull the fly wheel. I have a gear puller and I've was turning so as to not stress the wheel, when all of the sudden the wheel broke off a pieced about one inch by two.
The thing is that it broke between the gear mounting hole so I could still use the wheel. right?
But will it be off balance since some of the wieght of the wheel is missing some?
so would that be bad for the engine?
Do I need a special tool or do i need to do some thing to release that fly wheel cause its really stuck?
I cant get it off, i plan on getting like some wrench off spray tomorrow and trying that. Any other sugestions?

that flywheel is toast.

honestly you f'd this one up on your own. A gear puller that grabs the edge of the flywheel is, well, the flywheel's worst enemy. You have to use a harmonic balanced gear puller that is fastened to the top of the flywheel with three bolts. The main bolt must be alligned with the crankshaft. If after tightening and the flywheel still doesn't pop off, start tightening the three anchor bolts a little at a time. It should pop off

yes i realized I F'd this one but i think I got a new fly wheel form a 35 hp same year, not sure i'm checking in to it, plus the whole engine will only cost me 35 buck can't really complain, and yeah I'm going to rent one of those harmonic pullers i relized I jewd this one. what do you think could I possible use that old wheel that busted a little off or is it f'd so to say?

The 40HP motors started out with the same flywheel as the 35's but later got a bigger crankshaft and different flywheel. The crankshaft and flywheel have to match. Your 1961 model probably has the larger crank. Does your flywheel have an access hole for adjusting the points? If so, that should be the "small one" and the flywheel from the 35 should fit. No way I would ever crank and run one of these motors with a damaged flywheel. You could die!
