I am running a 2009 40hp etec on a duck boat. I need a stainless prop that is a 15p. I have been looking on ebay and other places online trying to find a used one, but am not sure how to tell if they will fit or not. I have seen a couple of sites put the 40hp with the smaller diameter props, but have also seen some put the 40hp with the 13" props.
I am confused. Can someone explain to me what exactly I should look for? I would even go for a part number for a solos or comparably priced prop. Thanks

As pitch increases diameter decreases.
The older 40 has a 2.42 gear chase Thje Etec a 2.67 ratio larger gear case.
Thje 40 has a Solas aturn ss 12 1/4 X 15" The Etec has a Saturn 13 1/2 X 15. A 23" pitch Etec prop is 13 1/4 X 23.
the old 40 biggest is 11/3/4 X 19.If the add doesn't say Etec, it isn't.
Diameter follows the design of the prop If its intended for your Etec it is the right prop.
Tell us your prop size, light loaded wot rpm and gps speed and what you want to accomplish.

bought a 60 etec which has the same gearcase as the 40 .the bonus was that i had a 1982 90 evinrude and all the props off of that motor will fit the 60 .have several from 15p to 21 .15 s/s is my fav with a vortex 17p for light cruising loads.as roscoe noted, you have a lot of options ..

Is there enough performance gain with a ss prop on a 40 horse to justify the expense??

Agreed,If we don't have the present performance numbers it's hard to evaluate your needs.
Is a ss worth triple the cost? What performance are you looking for?
