40hp evinrude need to know year

this motor needs repaired and Iwould like to know what year it is serial#j0002224 model number 406544,if any one can tell me where to look to find this information it would be greatly appreciated.<br /> thankyou

Model number 40654 (as opposed to 406544) checks out as a 1976 40hp engine. Does this sound right?<br />If so, 50:1 gas/oil ratio, and Champion UL81C gapped at .030 for plugs.

Mr. Moir ,I'm not sure but my modell number sez 406544 dont know if that one extra four has any thing to do with it or not,thanks though.
