I can't get my motor to start. I took the cover off and the starter spins but does not engage the motor. Any suggestions?

Foodfisher is right, clean the shaft with isopropyl? alcohol, do NOT lube the starter with grease or oil, charge the battery fully, clean every battery cable mounting surface spotless (boat and battery), test. This should clear up most issues.
