My 2002 Fisher 16 Pro Avenger Deep V struggles to get up on plane with its 2002 2-cylinder 40 hp Merc. Hull weighs about 1050# and is rated for 90hp. I messed up and bought an underpowered boat. Going to have to make do with the 40 until bank acct. recharges.

The 40 has a 3-blade prop with a 13 inch pitch and 10.25" diameter. At WOT with motor pitched out as far as possible, I see about 23mph and 5000rpm. This is with 2 aboard and 10 gal. fuel. Doubt boat can get up on plane with 3 aboard and full fuel.

Motor specs. show Max RPM at full throttle as 4500-5500 RPM. Would I gain anything in getting on plane or top-end by going to a 12 inch pitch prop of same diameter?

I'm new at this; any explanations would be appreciated.
Bob
