Some are probably familiar with my saga with an old beaten up 1967 Seahorse. I just replaced the coils, got spark and was excited to get going when the new plugs I ordered (JC6) with a kit did not fit. They were too small. And I had previously ordered some QL77JD4 plugs that also did not fit. I did not realize when I removed the plugs that they were helicoils. It was suggested that The head was simply ruined and it needs to be replaced. Period. My only other experience with a helicoiled plug was when I was a kid on a go kart, but it worked fine. What would be the drawback? I can get a new head and rebuild gasket for a total of about $100. Not a huge deal, but I just can't see why. Looking for some input. I suppose I could see that the gap inside the cylinder is not the same anymore, causing a rich or lean problem, and possibly a carbon buildup. But to me that has to be thousandths of a difference. To a purist I see the issue. To those people, I am sorry for your damaged keyboard.

The best way to repair it without pulling your head is with a shouldered aluminum Timesert insert. It would probably be cheaper to replace the head than to buy or rent the tools if you don't own them already.
