I've had to disconnect the VRO on my '89 40hp Johnson.(bad oil pump, lack of cash to replace it).
I've seen several posts here about the wiring of the pump and none matches mine.
My boat was rigged(new) by Tracker and several pieces and parts are not standard Johnson.
The 3 wires from the pump are routed under the powerhead and I cannot find any quick disconnect anywhere on the harness, in fact, after the wires disappear under the engine I can't even find the same colored wires at the terminal box.
I've cut and taped the 3 wires coming from the pump and cut and taped the 2 wires at the top on the oil tank, removed the VRO pump, installed a new standard fuel pump and put a brass plug in the pulse limiter hole in the block.
I've cleaned the carbs and put in carb kits and all new fuel hoses.
Running fine on the muff and hose but I'm wondering if I'm missing anything on the VRO disconnect that may hurt the engine.
Too cold here to try it out on the water right now. Just wondering what I may have missed and want to get it right.
