Hey Guys Thanks for letting me join in,,

I have an issue with an older 4 cylinder 45 hp mariner, if i put it on high idle it will start and run bumping the choke once or twice will keep it running, now i have cleaned the carbs, installed new diaphrams in the fuel pump side of the carbs, when i go to take it off high idle it just dies just like it kills fuel or spark, put it back on high idle and it fire right back up with a bump of the choke, The trigger and brain box has been replaced before i got ahold of this unit, so it has good spark seems like good fuel but also seems like not enough. any insight into this guys?

Secondly i thought maybe the the hard reeds maybe weak and not making enough pulse. any ideas?

any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the carb(s) are still dirty. Did you thoroughly clean the low speed circuits?

Completely tore down soaked and blown out with compressed air in every orifice, checked and double checked, have had the carbs apart 3 times thinkn the same thing, its Kinda got me baffled,, i may scope the hard reads today to to see if they are closing up or intact., im guessing the nature of the beast, any of the older fellas i spoke with about these ,,give me the same response, pretty much.

Were they that troublesome? Especially when left sitting for any length of time?

Always thinkn of checking crank seals some what for leak by , causing a weak pulse, which would cause issue for the fuel diaphragms not to function properly? How do you folks check yours?

Complete carb kit, done, and yes all passages are free an clear, just did the reed test on it and 4 out of the 8 failed, so she might as well be a boat anchor, unfortunate, but it is the nature of the beast
