help.1987,45hp mercury,starts fine,does not want to get on plane ,bang all of a sudden runs like a top,then spudders down ,and then takes off again,,had the carbs rebuilt,new fuel line and new ball,,where do i go from here,,,,serial no ob170699,,thank you for ur time,,rbass

hey ,guys ,while ur here ,i have a 1989 75hp mariner ,power head has 2 holes blowed in it ,one on each side of motor,,is this junk ,or can it be saved,thank you

Just so you can completely rule of the fuel system, have someone pump the primer bulb while trying to get on plane and if this does the trick then you will need to rebuild the fuel pump. I doubt it is the fuel pump. However, sounds like a fuel problem, the back and forth nature of the throttle.<br /><br />Check the spark on all cylinders. Make sure it is a strong blue spark, at least clearing a 7/16" gap.
