I am sure this has been asked a hundred times before. When I searched for the topic nothing came up. So since I know the 3.7's are prone to overheating and at some point I could end up putting a head on the old girl. I am wondering if an automotive 460 head can be used?

I have done it, the water outlet tube on the fwd end of the head will have to be added to the automotive head. I had a local machinist drill and ream the hole then tapped in a salvaged water outlet tube, almost a year on the work, seems to be fine. Connecting rod bearings, piston rings, lifters all seem to be fine too.

The head used on the 470-488 motors is a ford 460 head with the water outlet added.
