Didn't take enough notes before pulling the cable. Can't find anything in either of my manuals (sterndrive or engine). My only clues are a diagram that shows a shift cable attaching clamp (part no. 54-61001) on the right lower part of the flywheel cover and the shift bracket on the left side of the engine where the cable terminates.

Can anyone help?

Almost done with this project!

Nate,

I'm pretty sure that's the only place mine attaches. It runs from the switch plate, down between the block and the aft end of the heat exchanger, loops under the fly wheel and then just has a big sweeping bend into the transom assembly, starboard side. I haven't looked at it closely in a while, but that's how I remember it

Left side? looking from transom or from bow? This is why we use starboard and port. kinda like drivers side or passenger side on a car.

Easy to remember: left, port and red all have fewer letters then right, starboard and green.

Mine goes straight back from the shift plate, around back behind the riser, then sweeps toward starboard around the back of the engine, then about a foot behind the carb it curves downward and slightly forward, then down by the oil pan it curves back toward the hole in the lower transom. Its not clamped, tied, or connected to anything the entire way.
