The correct answer is to find, and fix, the leak...but, I see no reason to not try the Stop Leak method except that unlike a car, you may be 5 miles from shore when the 'plug' fails!

You can carry a couple of jugs of water and get by when this happens...IF you are paying real close attention to your gauge. If you are boating in fresh water, then you can get away without carrying any.

Happy boating!

P.S. Before the rest of you start flaming me: I am an owner of a 470, and I know the frustration of a coolant leak! Mine is probably in the exchanger, but I didn't watch the gauge and have probably trashed the head gasket. If I had tried the Stop Leak method, I might still be boating in that boat. I have a second boat (3.0L) that will never quit!

Re: 470 coolent leak.

i think its part of the water pump gasket.

Snug up the bolts for the impeller houseing and the intake hose houseing that is bolted to the impeller houseing. If you still have the leak after, inspect to find the location of the leak, weather it is the gasket or not. Having a leak in that area can signal a few larger issues and you want to be sure where the coolant is coming from before you do anything more. If the leak is coming from the for-mentioned weep-hole and you add stop leak or plug it you will have much larger issues.

that weep hole will bleed coolant when the cam shaft seals goes bad, if the coolant doent leak out said hole it will end up in you oil and thats a bad day!
