New boat to me. A 92 with a 2 stroke 48 spl. First day on the water.
what is the proper way to start cold and after warm. And does my symptoms suggest something wrong or needs something.

what is actually going on with the key prime button? How can I check or confirm it works? Do you give it a little neutral throttle, and push it once real quick then turn key without pressing it while turning? I'm suspecting it might be malfunctioning...this key prime button thing sure is new to me, coming from a mercruiser 4.3.

once she was running and warm I would still continue to have a hard time starting. But while she's cruising she's nice. But idle and starring are rough..

plugs are new. Gas is good. Vented tank...after a little bit lol, maybe a carb rebuild?

lastly, I have a solid water stream...but what is the other "spray" that comes out the rear of the motor. Thx

To check and see if your key prime button is working, push it in when the motor is running and if it's working the motor should start to stumble meaning it's getting too much fuel.

The electric primer is a valve.------When you push in the key WHILE CRANKING it over it will spray fuel into the airstream for near instant starting.----Hold the key in while cranking.

I believe the '91s have idle mix adjustment needles (top rear of the carb). Try adjusting when warm for best idle (slight adjustment(s) clockwise first, until the motor pops or stalls, then c.clockwise about 1/4 turn richer. It should go into gear at a low idle when adjusted, without stalling.

Unless you know the impeller was replaced within the last year +/-, should replace it to be safe. Sounds like it's currently pumping. The smaller holes are overflow, and actually better cooling indicators than the pee stream -- comb exhaust and cooling water. Use an infrared tester to see what the operating temp is (t.stat is up at the top of the head, and easy to get at).

Thanks. Will look into that. I'll check sync too. By the holes in the back... if you were behind the Boat, looking foward, the holes in refering to would be visable to you. They have a rubber grommet as well. While at idle, I notice this water having a slight oily tinge to it as it rests on the lake water... prior to getting her started, before I knew what was going on I caused a good amount of fuel leak onto the water...but only prior to starting. Later on it was very minor.
