Hi

I am working on a 4hp 1995 evinrude for my friend which he has had since new and used once. I have had to replace the exhaust gasket as it was leaking and killing the motor with the hood on. I now have it running it appears to be spitting water from the exhaust ports is this normal or do I have a leak from the cooling to the exhaust? (The tell tail is pretty strong). When I took the exhaust plate off it was full of salt and he admitted he didn't run it through when it was put away!

Thanks for any advice you can give

If you're speaking of water spitting from the small holes that are located about halfway down the long exhaust housing, that's normal and indicates that the water pump is functioning.
