Hey guys I've been away from the boat too long again. I took all the family 4x4 through the army training ground at Waiouru. An organised tour we really enjoyed!
The good old Isuzu 2.8 D turbo wearing 210mm Mitchillin's (spelling) surprised myself and the army major in charge.
She climbed out of all the traps when others in big machines stuck and required rescue.
She climbed a wet clay bank and drove up a 45+ degree slope without difficulty. I overheard the army major remark on the ability on a number of occasions. He was expecting the big machines to be the best.
Finally out of 120 vehicles - including a few hard yakka machines - we were amongst only 14 to complete the circuit. The army closed it because of difficulty and amount of rescue needed.
We towed x2 others out of the muck!!
Great day, good family entertainment and good machine.
My secret was that I was taught to drive in mud very young and it's not so much what you're driving but how you drive it!
Now back to the boat and soon a few snapper for dinner.
Ross

PS Oh, did I mention venison for dinner. It pays to carry the rifle when out in the bush some times.........
