did you get a marine Ford 5.0 or an automotive Ford 5.0 for the new short block? Many marine 302 motors had 351 cranks so they have different firing orders.

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 for many ford 5.0 marine engines
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 for the automotive

It was an automotive short block. Wouldn't it stay the marine firing order because of the marine cam to run it right handed

Ayuh,..... What makes ya think it's a right-handed motor,.....

Most to all boat motors are standard left-handed motors, for the last few decades,....

The crank firing order must match the cam firing order.

If u are looking at it from the pullies it turns right handed and if you are looking from the rear its left handed. The only thing I can think of is when I put the flywheel on all six holes didn't match up only got four of them to match up. I didn't turn flywheel 360 degrees to see if I could get the to all line up. Both motors have the 50 oz balancer. Shouldn't matter if crank spins one way or the the other.

I thinking about just swapping over the crank from old boat motor to new block. Thoughts? Should I swap pistons too? Or will automotive pistons be fine.

Dude, if it was me, I would fully step back, research what is needed and go from there. The old motor most likely had a 351 crank and matching cam. I would at a minimum pull the motor, put in the correct crank and cam.

Boat motors are closer to truck motors than car motors.

the fact that the flywheel didnt fit should have thrown up red flags and sirens.

If you are going to use the old motor's crank, you will at a minimum need to have the crank serviced and obtain new bearings.

Another item. when you switched your shortblock, did you install marine specific head gaskets (stainless fire ring) and brass core plugs?

recieved your PM, however the forums are for asking the questions (to further the collective so to speak). your cam must have the same firing order as the crank. in this case, both must have 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 and not the automotive 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 that your long block has. since you only swapped the cam, you have a crank with one firing order and a cam with another. that would cause your motor to shake like a dog passing a peach pit.

Ayuh,..... Thanks Scott,...... I just spit all over my 'puter,....... ;) :D

How many engines have you assembled in yer lifetime,..??

These questions are answered by measuring the parts of yer motor with a micrometer,.....

It's not near as easy, 'n simple as ya make it out to be,...

You'll be miles ahead, by sellin' the wrong parts ya got, 'n buyin' the Right parts, rather than cobbin' it together,....

Like Scott said, ya need a truck motor,... which is a marine motor,...

check your float as well as needle and seat. may want to check fuel pressure as well. for some reason, your float isnt shutting off the flow of fuel.

Everything checks out how its suppost to needle is new float is perfect horizontal when you flip it up side down to check it. Look at a different fourm and they were saying some about lower power valve. Not sure what stock is suppost to be for power valve

The last thing I have to try is fuel pressure from pump anyone know how to check it between pump and carb?

take off the steel line, go to parts store, get a section of 3/8" brake line with ends, cut in half, thread half into pump, thread other half into carb. grab some 3/8" fuel line, a 3/8" barbed tee fitting, a fuel pressure gauge, and 6 hose clamps

should be about 5psi

when done with test, put on original steel line.
