finally got the boat running good in the drive way hooked up to muffs. Went to put it in the water started it up put it in reverse to get away from trailer. Went to put in neutral and it stalled. Gave it a little neutral throttle to start it back up then back to neutral and it died again. Got it to start with out the throttle when to put it in gear and died again. It would stay on if I was giving it neutral throttle but as soon as I put it back into neutral it would died..the next day back in the driveway fired up and ran with no problems.. Any Ideas before I try to put it back in the water. Thanks in Advance

Update. I ran the boat today it ran good for about 10 minutes then died. Will only stay on if giving it throttle. The boat has sat for a while can it be a fuel issue?

A motor with an Alpha drive that dies when you put in gear or out of gear most likely has a sticky lower shift cable that is activating the shift interrupt switch. A sticky cable will push the interrupt and hold it long enough to kill the motor. You should probably read about how that works in the Adults Only section of the forum.

Thank you I will look into it

Agree with Rick. The shift interrupt mechanism works against shift cable resistance. Either from a bad, sticky cable or from resistance from the prop in the water. There is very low prop resistance on the muffs, so the mechanism normally doesn't activate. The Adults Only section will help you understand. achris provided a video explaining the cable adjustment process for the cut out mechanism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s_tgevX2aI&feature=youtu.be
