Re: 5.0 engine and cobra sterndrive ?
hi everyone . i am looking at a 1995 fourwinns 238 vista . it is a one owner boat in great shape . my only concern is it has the 5.0 litre ford engine in it and the omc cobra outdrive. i have been told by a few people to stay away from the cobra outdrives because they are hard to find parts for them . all my other boats were 350 gm . motors with a merc sterndrive . any thoughts, or should i buy it and hope my wife doesnt shoot me if it breaks .thankyou ..
Well,
depends on where you have a target on your back.....is she pretty good with a gun?
That "95" Cobra is either an interim OMC/ (meaning it's actually a 1994 model year unit) or it's a Volvo SX which came out either 95 or 96 (Don? )
In either case, you're possibly getting an engine/drive combination where certain new parts may not be available.
Doug Russell lists the EFI electronic parts for the 94 model as either "Please Call" and/or "VINTGE"
That's pretty much a
red flag in my book.
Make absolutely sure that normal repair/wear parts are available before you buy a boat with an engine/drive combo that is made by a company that went out of business more than 10 years ago!
Good luck,
Rick
