5.0 GI starting problems

When I go to start my 5.0GI I leave the throttle at the idle position. Turn the key on for a couple of seconds and then turn the motor over. I usually starts right away and revs to about 1800rpm and then dies. I turn the key to the start position again and it immediately starts and runs normally at about 650rpm. It didn't used to do the first routine. Any suggestions what I can to make it start and run normally on the first attempt. This is only happening when the engine is cold. Or am I being too fussy? Motor runs beautifully otherwise and is super fuel efficient.

I just changed both fuel filters, plug wires, plugs, rotor and cap. The only thing that hasn't been changed is the coil but I can't really see that being the problem.

Any suggestions or should I just leave it alone?

Re: 5.0 GI starting problems

I have cleaned up any of the connections I can find and started the engine for the first time in about 6 weeks. It continues to do the start/stop and restart /run routine. I notice some corrosion around the coil so I am going to order a new one and replace it. I don't think this is the problem though. Anyone have any other ideas? If not I will have to take it someone with a diagnostic reader.

You need to do some diagnostics to find out if you are loosing fuel or ignition instead of throwing parts at it.
I doubt a coil will cure your problem, could be as simple as a corroded contact on the fuel pump relay. Impossible to tell you all the different possibilities that could cause the problem.
Here are the oem manuals you can download for your engine. http://www.4shared.com/dir/14518190/c08a758e/EFsharing.html
