I'm considering looking at a 1995 Genesis 2001 BR with a 5.0 lX. I am mainly interested in pulling wakwboarders. I'm assuming that the lx means that it has the 4bbl holly carb. Is this correct? Also does anyone know how much horsepower this engine puts out? What is the difference in power between the regular 2bbl 5.0 and the lx? I would also appreciate any information about this engine or this particular boat, especially regarding wake size, gas consumption, and low end power since I'm interested in wakwboarding. Thanks

Matt, I don't have the answers to what you ask,but for a specific application as you seek,I think only a water test will tell.
DHP

Is it a Volvo or Mercruiser drive?---LX probably refers to the boat options or the drive. How big is the boat and what is the weight? You can get this data from a dealer website or the NADA books.

If it is 21 feet or longer, I would want more power.

Drive it and pull somebody behind it with a boat load of people---only way to tell.

Matt, I believe what you're looking at is a 305cid with a 4bbl Weber. I think 230 hp. You wouldn't want any less HP. Is it an Alpha or B3?

It is a 20' boat and I think it is an Alpha 1 outdrive. I'm not sure what the weight is.

That's the same engine I have in mine...

Don't worry... You have plenty of horses to pull your boarders!

I've had mine plain out on a smooth lake at 55mph. Not bad for a bone-stock, no-frills Bayliner.

H.

1993 Chris Craft 197 Concept.
OMC Cobra I/O
5.0 HO Ford with a 2 bbl carb.
Rated at 200 hp
Tops out over 50 mph
Pulls 5 slalom skiers (have to be good ones)
Feels like it would pull the rope right out of someone's hands if they don't have a good grip.
No complaints at all.
But....the real test is to drive the boat under the conditions you will be using it.

Charles

Re: 5.0 lx horsepower?

I am not an engine guru, but I believe the standard 5.0 with 4bbl is a 5.0L the LX means that it has the anti-knock module on it. This is what I gather from the owner's manual. The anti-knock module is a plastic Y fitting on the starboard block drain that has a wire coming out of it that you must be very careful not to disturb when pulling the block drain...My 5.7 lx runs far better on 92octane fyi. This info is in the section about winterizing.

Hello Matt,I went to N.A.D.A. used boat value guide and it has this boat listed at 2,650 lbs.I think the horse power for this engine is around 220.should be plenty unless your towing Rosie O'donel and her twin.F.Y.I. listed average selling price for this boat is $8,330.hope this helps.

Jim
