5.0 MPI stalls

I have a 2002 5.0 MPI with 1,100 hours. Sometimes after it's hot it doesn't want to run. It starts but stalls out. I've found the way to get it running again is to loosen the fuel filter and wait a few minutes then it will restart and run fine. Otherwise it's running great. During one of these episodes when I turn the key to prime the fuel pump the pump doesn't sound normal. It seems to have a higher pitch sound. I've tried letting it idle for a while to cool down but that doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions is appreciated.
