Started off fine half a mile out just died from overheating no alarm happened and I’ve heard it before, well I sat n waited for it to cool down and tried starting again then it ran like s*it died maybe 100 feet later and got hot again. I’m at a loss I’m a new boater

Get a tow in. Your raw water impeller is toast.

Impeller is most likely cause for overheating. However, there is still 2 other components to check. The actual water pump on the engine, as well as the thermostat. If the thermostat is stuck closed that would also cause overheating. The fact that you said it wouldn't start back up and ran bad after overheating is more troublesome...do a compression test and see what numbers you got..could have blown a headgasket from getting too hot

I have a 93 OMC 5.0. Check the left side of the outdrive where "the screw you NEVER remove" is located and make sure it is still there. Mine fell out, and without it the water pump was pushing water out the open screw hole instead of up into the motor. Plugged the hole and my overheating stopped.
