5.0 Volvo Penta GXI Question (2002)

Any help would be appreciated. I just bought a 2002 larson 210 lxi with a volvo penta 5.0 gxi raw water cooled engine. The boat starts and runs great. The only issue I have found is that the hot water outlet near the top of the motor is shooting a hot water stream into the bottom of the engine compartment. I'm guessing this water should be redirected to the outside of the boat. If I run the bilge pump the water is evacuated fine. Should there be a plug on this or a tube to the exterior of the boat? The boat runs at normal or below normal temperature. Thanks in advance for the help.

Post a picture of what you are calling a hot water outet. The only way for cooling water to get out of the engine is through the exhaust, there is no other method. Also need the rest of your model number. The letter/s after the GXi

That is for your drive, need the one for your engine.

I'm trying to attach a schematic of the engine. It looks like its coming out of (E) Water drain. I wonder if it just needs to be tightened from winterization or a plug re installed.

Don't you have the serial number for your engine? That schematic works, but not enough detail to show what you are talking about.
Just take a digital picture of it and post it.

type for the motor reads sx-m Ratio 1.60

Sx-m is your model of sx drive, and 1.60 is the gear ratio. So you still need to get the model number or serial number for the actual engine.

AGAIN, that is for the drive, not the engine. We need the ENGINE serial number ............ :facepalm:

Jon,

It looks like water is coming out of your block drain. Did you try tightening it? On my 5.7, hot engine water is fed to my hot water heater, so I actually have a hose there, but I think normally it's a drain with a valve or plug.
