5/16 too big 1/4 too small

Im trying to pull the flywheel on my 25hp 2003 johnson

a 5/16 bolt is too big and 1/4 is too small.

the 5/16 will start to thread but they feel too tight and and it feels like Im gonna strip the threads. Theres 17 threads on the 5/16

Any ideas

wrong thread count. one 5/16 but i don't know correct one.

Most are 5/16-24 thread. Use a #8 bolt if you can get them.

They are 5/16-24. I just finished digging 20 tpi threads out of one hole.

Coarse threads 5/16-18. 5/16 outside diameter, 18 threads per inch (NC)
Fine threads 5/16-24. 5/16 outside diameter, 24 threads per inch (NF) You need the 5/16-24 NF in grade 8 or at the very least grade 5. Rick
