Trim won't work. Worked fine in yard. Then nothing not even a noise. Checked all the fuses I could find, (under dash and the 10A by motor). I did see in an earlier post that about jumping the motor to the battery. Did that and there is a noise. Should the lower unit move when I do this jump? Thanks

Have you held in the red over ride button on the dash? The trim limiter can prevent it moving. When you mention noise then yes the drive should move unless it is against it's lower or upper limits. Try reversing the connection and see if it moves.

Jumped the motor/pump to battery again. Had wife watch lower unit not daughter. Unit moves up and down. So hopefully the motor/pump is good. The boat is a Four Winns 230 Horizon.

Should be a relay in the wiring harness somewhere near the trim motor. Disconnect it, clean contacts (male and female), reinstall with a little dielectric grease, see what happens ...

No Title

Unusual for both relays to go bad at the same time. Check that the power from the trim switch is getting to the relays, use a test lamp or multimeter, normally you would hear the relays click if they are OK. If they do click then check the main power supply is getting to the relays, as suggested, clean the spade contacts on the relays and the sockets. You have reset the circuit breaker haven't you?

Will check power and clean contacts. I haven't found a circuit breaker. I did check both fuses that I know of. One under dash and one at trim motor, both fine. Thanks

Both relays looked like new. No corrosion. Did a power test to the motor/pump, no power. Also checked the power to trim switch on throttle control, no power. There should be power to the trim switch all time, right?

As I just recently learned, there are some boats that require the ignition to be on to use the trim.

View attachment 5.7 wiring.pdf On my boat (1999, 5.0 Gi) the circuit breaker is located on the fwd end of the Electrical connector box on the starboard Riser. It has 50 inscribed on the red button. To operate the trim on mine requires the ignition to be on.

Similar thing happened to me last week when I did my initial start of the season. turned out my battery terminals had some mild corrosion and when I hit the trim to lift the drive, got no response. Confused my cause the blower and bilge pumped worked so i figured the battery was connected fine, but the trim draws so much more juice that it wouldn't move. Cleaned my terminals and all is well.

Sorry for not getting back earlier. Figured it out. The reset switch on the back of the motor was malfunctioning. I bypassed the switch and the trim worked. I have since replaced the switch and all is well. Thanks for every ones input.
