I've got a Glastron SX195 with the 4.3 Vortec and the Penta SX outdrive. Thinking about swapping the 4.3 with a mild small block 350. I'm trying to determine what all will actually be the hard part in the swap. Can someone give me a quick (broad) list of what I'm getting myself into?

I'm thinking that some stuff with swap, alternator, waterpump, steering, will swap.

I don't understand exactly how the exhaust and cooling really work when compared to exhaust on a car engine. I know this isn't a small project but I can't believe that it is something the normal "car" guy couldn't do.

Anyone know what the power handling capabilities of the Penta SX outdrive are?

I'm thinking that building a mild small block would be putting out 275 at the crank (safe bet). I thought I read somewhere that the Penta SX is used on the 5.7l engines in the bigger boats.

Can-o-worms I know.......

Do a search, I've seen all of your questions answered before. Lots of folks on here have done 4.3-5.7 swaps. in most cases it's not that bad... definately need new exhaust.

also consider block measurements and make sure your engine mounts can be used if not then you have a whole other project on your hands as in rebuilding everything in the engine bay AND once that is done getting everything aligned perfectly back to the drive.
