My 5.7 has two thru hull exhaust pipes, so the manifolds never meet each other. When the engine is running, water only comes from the port side exhaust pipe, not the starboard. I haven't let it run long enough to bring it to operating temperature but should water come from both exhausts all the time?

Howdy,

Yes. you should have (approx) equal amounts of water from both.

If you do not, you may have blockage in one of the manifolds, risers, or supply hoses from the t-stat housing or the t-stat housing itself might be plugged with rust such that very little cooling water is making it to one side manifold/riser etc.

You might not get a LOT at idle but there should be some coming out of BOTH.

When you run the engine above idle, both risers and manifolds should NOT be REALLY hot to the touch
(since they have a lot of cool water flowing through them)

It's not uncommon for one to measure warmer than the other. (using an IR temp measuring device)

But, if there's NO water flowing through one of them because the supply, manifold or riser is completely blocked or plugged, one side will get VERY HOT while the other side will not be all that hot.......
