I've got a 1996 Larson SEI 194 with a 5.7GL and a Cobra outdrive. Head gaskets are blown on the center cylinders(assuming it got hot?). I'm looking for a suggestion on what to get for a good full gasket kit(head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets etc..) I found this kit:

https://bpi.ebasicpower.com/shop/cr...er-bolts-1987-1997?cPath=1830_1854_1856_1866&

I just want to make sure I put high quality parts back in it so let me know if there is something better. Also, any good modifications I should do for reliability and performance while I'm at it let me know! Pretty sure it's non vortec heads because it's a 12 bolt intake manifold. Currently has a 2 barrel and a dual plane intake manifold. Thanks!

Do they need to be a "Marine" Gasket or is a good head gasket for a vehicle gonna be good on this as well?

It does not say what brand the gasket set is, but Fel-pro are the better choice. Should be marine version, not automotive due to the raw water cooling of marine engines.

Felpro marine gaskets

Make sure you verify your motor is a true 1996 (vortec heads and 8 manifold bolts) vs a left over 1995 (non vortec heads and 12 manifold bolts)
Use a straight edge to verify deck and heads are flat

Fel-Pro marine gaskets for sure, RTV for sealing the front and rear of the intake manifold
you want to really clean all the sealing surfaces measure flatness to less than .003" and clean out the cyl head bolt holes with a thread chaser. Make sure each head bolt will thread all the way in before Installing the heads; if not find out why!

Thanks everyone, I plan to have the heads gone through at the machine shop to redo the mating surface and check out the valves. I asked about the automotive headgaskets because I'd like to throw an MLS gasket in, I'll check into Fel-Pro. I definitely also plan to buy new head bolts.

Hey guys, my engine is a non-vortec, it has center bolt valve covers but a 12 bolt intake manifold. Can you tell me which of these kits(if any) is right for me for the Fel-Pro kits? Either 17208 or 17214 or 17230 or 17232. As noted before, I'd like an MLS gasket.

If it is a non Vortec V8 then each intake gasket in the set should have holes for 6 bolts. Vortec will have only 4.

I ordered the 17208 kit that included everything and has 6 bolt intake manifold gaskets. Purchased on Summit Racing for almost $100 cheaper than O'Reillys. Thanks for the help! Hopefully once I get done with this job I won't have any more issues.

17208 is a Vortec gasket kit with center bolt v/c, steel core intake gaskets, 4 bolts per side
17232 is a Vortec gasket kit with center bolt v/c, plastic intake manifold gaskets, 4 bolts per side

17214 is a Non-Vortec gasket kit with center bolt v/c, intake gasket 6 bolts per side
17230 is a Non-Vortec gasket kit with old style valve covers, Intake gasket 6 bolts per side

I think you ordered the incorrect gasket kit
