Purchased 2000 model 3075 Crusiers Yacht 2 months ago and have had port engine warning light comming on when throtteling up and when cruising above 2800 rpm. I have had mechanics check out the engine with a computer monitor but no codes are found. We had the computer hooked up when the port light and horn were sounding and there were no codes.

We have tried and replaced the following:
Replaced Alternator
Replaced Distributor
Cleand Throttle body intake
Tested all sensors for possible electrical problem
Replaced seawater pump
Replaced warning horn
Tested all wiring to motor, transmission, battery and generator.

I think the only three things that can set off the warning sensor are:

Engine Temp
Oil presure or
Transmission overheating

All gauges show normal readings when the warning light comes on. These Horizon 5.7 Mercrusiers have an engine protection that shuts them down to 2500 rpm if there is a code or malfunction. This is not happening, even when the warning light is on I am able to bring the engine to full throttle.

The engine seem to be running fine and shows no cause for the warning light. I have had 3 Mercrusier mechanics look at the engine and all agree the engine is running fine.

If anyone has any ideas or has had this experience please HELP!!!

There should be an interface between the Mercruiser ecm and the Cruisers system. That's most likely where the problem lies. Sorry I cant really help much more without actually being there.

Thanks for the information.
Do you know if the ecm can send a false signal to the warning light?

Venezian... Can you verify your transmission temp with a gauge, and is the fluid level in the trans correct?

I'm no Mercruiser wrench, but an overheating trans, a faulty trans temp sender, or low trans fluid level may sound the alarm but not store a code in the ecm because the sender may not be connected to the ecm.. I dunno for sure..

I would first check the fluid level, then, try disconnecting the trans temp sender and then see if the alarm sounds...

Try swapping the ecm's to the other side and see if the problem goes with it.

We did check the fluid and sensor both were ok but it still puzzles me that the warning light goes on when in gear.
Thanks,

I will try today to swap ecm and see results.
Thanks.

Swapped ecm from starboard to port warning light continues to blink at 2400 rpm. When I throttled up to 3000 rpm the light stays on constantly.

Can something else be sending a warning to the engine lights that we may be overlooking?

Wiring harness mostlikely. You could try swapping harnesses see if it changes.

Unplug all sensors. Run engine and replace sensors one at a time to see if/when the problem comes back.
