hello all,
bought a 2000 model chris craft 210 BR 2 days ago off craigs list . test drove it first to make sure there were no issues. upon initial drive, noticed that engine was making "popping" noise around 5000 rpm. the seller described it as hitting "red line" on the motor. motor was replaced by remanufactured jasper- volvo penta 5.7 back in 2010 due to 1st owner fail to winterize= cracked block. i believed the bs after talking to his mechanic---- we ran 45 mph on the test drive. i figured that was pretty good for that boat. rookie mistake.
anyways, day after purchase, went out in the water and it started "popping" again around 4000rpms, with 3 people on board this time, instead of 2 with the initial test drive. the next day, got 8 people on board. around 3000rpms, same "popping" noise. something is literally popping under heavy load, and losing power. i had some friends on board that had somewhat experience with boat motors. they concluded that it wasn't the motor( ran all the way up to 6500 rpm in neutral with no issues) and not the lower unit either(no shaking or vibrations in gear under load). they think its something in the drive shaft, like a u-joint or something. weird thing is, when i test drove it, it fired right up. 2 days later, it won't start. I'm starting to think its something to do with the fuel pump. its acting like its not getting gas at high rpms , nor when I'm trying to start it.
please help fellow iboaters. i don't have the money, nor the wife, to start wasting time troubleshooting boat problems. I'm sure you understand lol. any input is appreciated
