5.7L Fuel Pump Question

I had posted a thread a while back about sputtering at full throttle. Thanks for the responses!

I tested the fuel pump and it is out of spec so I am replacing it. The new pump arrived and it looks very different from the original fuel pump. If I need to post pics then I can but in short the fuel line in and out are in different places but that's not a big deal as I'm pretty sure I can move the lines. However there is a clear line that goes from the base of the carb to the fuel pump on the original. The new pump has no where for this line to connect. I'm assuming this is a vacuum line and should just be capped at the carb? I know for a fact the part number is correct and I can only assume the aftermarket pump is intentionally different?

pull the plug and install a nipple fitting for the clear fuel line

you may need to rotate the bottom part of the pump to get the lines to align.

Thanks Scott. Isn't the clear line just a vacuum line? Is it even necessary to hook up on the new pump?

I believe the clear tube is that line that carries overflow fuel from the carb back to the fuel pump.
You need it for fire safety, when carb works well, it is not used.

Ahhh that makes sense. This is the "official" replacement part for the original. So strange that it wouldn't come with that nipple installed. Amybody have any idea where to get one?

It is not listed in any parts diagram. Did I mention this is really strange?

It's an official "will fit" part for Obsolete Marine Corp. Basically you are at the mercy of vendors

See if you can get the old one out with some heat.
Or check a local hardware or parts store for something that fits. It is just a tube, nothing fancy.

Even if I could the old one out it wouldn't go into the threaded end of the new one. I just went to 3 local hardware stores and they have nothing that would work without some crazy type of Jerry rigging. I understand that OMC is out of business but Sierra sells thousands of these per year for all kinds of OMC applications and I can't help but feel like there something missing here. I have searched the internet and not one result on this. Are all these people going to the hardware store and figuring out some solution successfully without so much as a mention anywhere?

Is it possible there are parts missing in the package I received?

Go to NAPA and see what they have cause something is not right with the one you have. I bought mine there and yes it is marine and the piece for the clear hose should be a standard size thread. The hose is there in case the diaphragm in the pump breaks it will pour gas back to the carb. and not in the bilge.

Thanks MRS. NAPA did indeed have what I needed and I'm all set. I think the one I purchased was an open box or a return because it was missing the gasket too which should come with it. My guess is normally that part would be in the box.
