Hey everyone,
Bad day on the lake on Saturday. I think I spun a main bearing. Three weeks ago they ran the boat until it melted the rubber exhaust bellows to the out drive. Needless to say the engine was running hot. The power steering cooler had a hole in it and it was not cooling the exhaust or the engine.

I got everything fixed and I took it out on Saturday, when I first put it in the water I tried to start it and it just clicked like the battery was dead. But after a few tries it started to turn over little by little. It was tight as a drum. I finally got it started and tried to drive it. It ran but had no power. It has good oil pressure but no power.

So I am going to pull the engine and I need to know if the out drive has to come off first? Sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find it. The boat is a 1988 and the out drive is factory, motor might have been replaced.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks for the reply.

I'm off to buy a manual. Any words of advice? I have rebuilt plenty of small blocks in my day but I have never taken an out dirve off. Should be fun.

More than likely it will be the easiest thing you are going to do.
