Can someone please tell me the advantages/disadvantages to the Mercuiser High Five compared with Ron Hills Signature 5.

I currently have a 15x17 aluminum and am looking for a better hole shot for skiing.

Re: 5 Blade Propeller Comparison

Hi there,
I have a ron Hill 5-blade prototype(He had just started making them) on my glastron 175sx in 23 pitch.
It pulls out of the hole alot better than the highfive. I think that has to do with the larger diameter and bigger blades. I found the Hill prop to have about the same top speed as the high five.
When going to a five blade you will lose a couple of MPH on the top end over a 3 blade for sure.
I wish that Ron Hill made a five blade for the small case mercs. I am using a 24 pitch highfive on my starcraft.
I would go with the Hill Prop. But a highfive is very good also if you can steal one on ebay. I would stick with the same pitch as what you are using now unless you are already at the bottom of you WOT range. If you are near the top of WOT range the same pitch will be fine.
Good luck!

Re: 5 Blade Propeller Comparison

It looks like I can get a Ron Hill for about $320 compared to about $480 for the High Five. I was also curious how well the StingRay Speed XP hydroplane will help me get out of the hole. I realize all these changes are going to effect top end, but I just really am looking for a much improved hole shot. Thanks for the help

I would try the prop first and after you pull your arms out of their sockets you will forget about the stingray!!
If hole shot is still a problem after that I would go for a set of smart tabs.

Re: 5 Blade Propeller Comparison

I think I am going to return the Stingray. I don't think I will be able to mount any trim tabs due to the back of the hull not being flat. It is curved in the corners. Thanks for the help. Anyone else out there used either of these two props. It sounds like I will be happy with either one.
