trying to winterize, im having a problem with muffs and getting antifreeze to pump through motor, im filling a bucket with antifreeze and running a 3' hose from muffs to bucket but will not suck any antifreeze out of bucket, i plugged the small hole on bottom of outdrive to create suction but still no luck, i also wanted to run salt away through motor this way, am i doing something wrong, the boat is freshwater cooled.

hook up the muffs and run on water. When done pull the hoses and plugs and drain. Forget about the antifreeze. Waste of time and environmentally unfriendly in my opinion. Plus doing it your way increases your odds of ending up with a cracked block, at least from reading posts about cracked blocks that surface every spring. Air dont freeze.

ok here is what i did. I removed hoses going to both manifolds and removed hose to raw water pump and drained all water , then i hooked manifold hoses back up and connected a hose to water inlet on raw water pump and ran 3 gallons of antifreez through engine then disconnected hoses again and drained system. Then i poured antifreeze backwards down the water intake hose until antifreeze came out of outdrive, then i reconnected the intake hose to the pump, i also fogged engine at the end of the third gallon of antifreeze, changed oil and filter and fuel filter and stabled the gas tank at our last ride this season, i still have to change the outdrive oil, is pulling the prop necessary now or the in the spring?oh and i think my problem with the muffs was they can't make a good seal.

I would drain your block before you crack it over the winter. Winterizing through muffs or though the intake hose is the same, ineffective. If you want to fill it with antifreeze, you'll need to drain the block, and pull the thermostat housing to fill. Personally, I just drain and wait for spring.

You can pull the prop anytime you want. The idea is to keep it from corroding onto the propshaft. Sounds like you're in salt water, so I'd pull it regularly and grease the shaft.

if you did not drain the block on a raw water cooled engine you simply blew 3 gallons of A/F out the exhaust and did NOT winterize the block.
here in the salt pond we fill the block and exhausts with A/F mix to help keep corrosion at bay.
here in the salt pond if you drain it and leave it empty things tend to rust severly when made of cast iron.

if nothing got sucked in the first time, isn't this the same as running engine without cooling?

I missed the FW cooled part, just like everyone else.
