I have a 28ph Johnson Sea Horse, Model# RX-11, SN# 2335394. Is 50:1 the right mix?

Re: 50:1 gas mix?

You have a 1963 engine there.
32:1 would be a good mix.I think that OMC started advising 50:1 for the engines of '64 and up.
There are however differences of opinion on the fuel mix so just wait a bit, you'll get some more reactions and just take the one that convinces you.
Just remember, that too much oil does not hurt an engine, too little will fry it.
Use 2 cycle oil for water cooled engines or outboards (tcw3)not the lawn mower type.
You need 2 Champion J4J,or J4C plugs and your gap is 0.030"
Good luck.

Re: 50:1 gas mix?

There is a slight difference between the '63 engine (24:1 originally) and the '64 (50:1 originally). The drain valve assembly has larger screens. The drain valve assy. is a block held in by two screws by the nuts that hold the engine on. It is part of the oil recirculation system.
I'm not sure if this makes any difference. I suspect the only benifit of the enlargened screens is to prevent blockage. Mind you, my RX-10 ('62) had it's smaller screens completely blocked...
