Thinkin about gettin a 50 horse evinrude that is a 1993. Are they good motors???? What is their reputation. Also I would run it on a 1756 welded aluminum boat with a plywood floor. About what would top speed be with two guys?
thanks
longshot

Re: 50 evinrude...

I've got a 1994 50 Evinrude on a 16 ft aluminum Lund. It is plenty of speed for me but everyone is different. I have had a problem with mine. The flywheel magnets loosened up after only a few years. (I fish so the motor doesn't run much even on a long day on the water) Evinrude picked up about 1/3 of the cost after the repair shop *****ed at them but it still cost me plenty because of the cylinder damage. Essentially, I needed a new powerhead. I now have an oily residue leak through the exhaust hub. Just things for you to check. I think my next buy will be a Japanese (Honda or Yamaha)
Good luck Granpa

I'm very familiar with this one. Had a 60hp for several years. If your is oil injected, disconnect it immediately! Mix the oil with the gas instead. Otherwise, I had only minor problems. Nothing more than I would expect from any outboard.

My old boat (16 foot aluminum x 42" bottom) ran 32mph with 2 guys and fishing gear. The power trim really made a difference (at least 7 mph).

Good luck
