50 hp 1987 force impellar question

Does the shaft that the impellar fits on have a keyway, the impellar has one but i did not find one on the shaft unless I over looked it.

Not a key but a pin to lock it in place.
It should be about 1/2-3/4 in long and about as thick as a pencil lead.

I do not believe there is a drive key for this model engine. Instead it uses a drive pin.

does it just sit on top of the pin or actually pin to the impellar, also if this is correct why do not have any water flow up to the head.

The pin goes through the impeller,Should be a hole through the impeller.
No flow to the head?? The pin in place?
Drop the unit, Remove the pump cover. Try turning the driveshaft to see if the impeller turns???

The pin is a stainless pin. There is a hole in the shaft and the pin slides into that hole. It sticks out avbout 1/8 imch. The impeller has a slot in the wall of the bronze bushing inside it. This slot only goes about halfway up the thickness of the impeller. Thus: You must orient the impeller with the slot facing down and slide it down the shaft and over the pin.

Once you replace the pump cover, you must be certain to get the brass tube into the plastic guide on the cover when you re-attach the lower unit. If the bsass tube is outside the plastic adapter, you will be pumping water into the leg and not into the engine.

i just did mine today, once you slide impeller watch you dont knock the pin out as it comes out very easy.
its like a little "dowl" type pin right where impeller is fits horizontally into shaft

carefully inspect your housing as i didnt buy one with my kit and mine is pitted and chipped slightly.
didnt bother replacing my impeller yet today, i have to try to find the housing.
so if anyone know where they carry the housing alone, let me know thanks

Dropped lower unit and check and I had missed the brass tube with the nylon tube coming out of the pump housing. Installed correctly and still no water to the head, primed the pump and we now pump water. Thanks for all the help. Also installed a tell tale as these engines do not have one.
