Force 50 hp. Model 507x7c. Motor lost power and then wouldn't crank last trip. So far I have replaced fuel lines and filter, new spark plugs, cleaned carb and replaced all gaskets. Also I found a blown head gasket that I also replaced. Motor will only crank if I put it in neutral and push throttle full forward. If I back it off to neutral it stalls. Help!!

Re: 50 hp force idle/crank issues

You need t make sure you have the air screw set properly (1 turn out from lightly seated) and also make sure the idle adjustment is set properly, i.e., in neutral on muffs or in the water idle RPM is around 1000~1100 RPM and when idling in gear should be around 700~800 RPM. This engine has a neutral interlock switch which requires that the throttle control be in neutral before starting. There is also an idle fast control which depending on the style of throttle control requires pushing a button or pulling the handle and pushing forward.

Re: 50 hp force idle/crank issues

Thank you jerry. i do have good spark to both plugs. checked fuel pump diaphram and gasket and no tears. The only thing I have not done yet is the compression test. One thing I have noticed is after multiple mis starts the starter gets pretty hot (this may be normal?) But also the positive lead from the battery @ the battery post also gets too hot to touch. (That's probably not normal?) Mix screw is set to 1-1/2.could it be my throttle linkage needs adjusted?

Hot starter?Could be low compression,loose connections(ground too).
These 50's will run on 1 cylinder so do the comp test.

Possible flywheel key sheared??

Re: 50 hp force idle/crank issues

The hot battery was a loose connection that I tracked down and corrected. I will stop by autozone this week and pick up a compression gague. Thanks for all the advice. I will check back in after I test it.
