Huskerdan is right about the little pin that drives the impeller. It is small, and the one in my 50hp lower fits loosely, so I could see it falling out upon installation. It is a good idea to change your impeller every season, as this is cheap insurance. Did you lube the old impeller before you reused it? If the impeller checks out you may look through some recent threads about 50hp's overheating. It seems that some folks are finding the cooling passages filled with deposits that block water flow. One last thing, are you using muffs or a barrel to test it? sometimes the round muffs don't work great, and if you have it in a barrel fill it up to or over the cavitation plate.
