when taking l/u apart what local fluids should be used to clean everything.fluids i can get at wallmart or auto parts store. thanks:joyous:

diesel fuel , gas , brake clean ,carb cleaner, afraid some stuff may not be good for the housing.

Why are you tearing the lower unit apart ? Is something broken? Why you ask LU are very complicated and very hard to get back together correctly.

If you must, please have a service manual you can follow, torque wrench, etc. I would use nothing stronger than parts cleaner,don't use fuel.

tommarvin thanks for your response. i do have a oem service manual torque wrench, etc i wanted to clean it with proper fluid so it would not damage the housing advance auto said they have a parts cleaner $ 25 a gal. im thinking now about some dawn, hot water and compressed air. thanks again for your help.:joyous:

Outboard lower units are not really hard to work on.-----Clean the parts with some varsol or similar solvent.

thank you racerone for the responce, found out BIG snap ring pliers a must. not familiar with varsol but will check where i might find it.thanks again. looks like 10" of snow with more comming stay warm.
