50 hp Merc 1985

Looking for a wireing diagram for an 50 hp with tilt/trim, need the color code for the gauges , from the shift control to the dash. I am helping a friend put this engine on his boat, he bought the engine but no book and thought I could get some help here. Thanks.

do you have a serial # for this motor there is over 5 diagrams to choose from

Look on the maxrules website for the wiring diagram and year. Your motor's serial no. looks to be a 1982.

You probably have the new, common wire colors such as purple for ign power, but those 4-cylinder 50HP motors were really popular, so they were made the same for years after other models were changed.
